Startup seeks to use biodiesel to support CO2 sequestration in Oman

August 16, 2021 |

In Oman, the startup 44.01 wants to capture CO2 emissions and turn it into stone for as a new “plug and play” model for carbon sequestration. It has secured $5 million in seed funding which is enough to get moving on the environmental and other permits required for construction on the northern coast of Oman where tectonic action has raised hundreds of square miles of peridotite to the surface. The startup has teamed with Wakud who, when operational, will provide biodiesel to ensure the facility itself and the trucks that bring the CO2 to the site do not compound the carbon emissions they want to sequester.
